Dr Ketels' research interests focus on the relationship between company strategy and location and on competitiveness at different geographic levels, especially in Europe. Dr Ketels received his PhD (Economics) from the London School of Economics (LSE) where he developed microeconomic models analyzing the relationship between international competition and firm efficiency. Dr Ketels holds further degrees from the Kiel Institute for World Economics and Cologne University. Dr Ketels worked as a strategy consultant for Monitor Company from 1997 to 2000 in the UK, Germany, and Scandinavia, and was part of a team that founded Cell Strategy (now part of Adcore AB), a Swedish-based Internet Strategy Consultancy, in 2000. He continues to have a keen interest in politics of his home country Germany where he was member of the CDU Internet-Commission in 2000/01.
Dr. Ketels has led cluster and competitiveness projects in many parts of the world, is a member of economic advisory groups in Europe and the Americas, has written widely on economic policy issues, and has been a frequent speaker on competitiveness and strategy in Europe, North America, and Asia.
